Jocelyn + Michael

We had such a wonderful time celebrating and capturing the memories of a wedding day for Jocelyn and Michael, they are a “sweet as can be couple” and we loved hearing their love story, and we wanted to share what they shared with us, with all of you!

“You Never Know What You’ll Find in Your Own Backyard” This old saying couldn’t be more true for Jocelyn and Michael. Michael first visited Rome, NY in 2007 with his college friend Patrick (James) Murphy (Best Man). Little did he know that he would have the distinct privilege of getting to marry the love of his life in that same town 12 years later.

Despite having several common friends, it took over two years for Jocelyn and Michael’s paths to cross in New York City. Interestingly enough, it came at a going away party for Pat’s sister Megan. But all it took was an introduction. When Jocelyn and Michael finally met there was something present in their relationship from the beginning that made the two of them feel as if they had known each other their whole lives. (This may also be why Jocelyn was comfortable bringing Michael home with her for the first time after having only dated for one month.) Maybe it was their similar upbringings – Michael in the Midwest and Jocelyn in Central New York – or maybe it was simply that the two of them had finally met their match. Either way, it’s what has led the two of them and all of you to June 29, 2019.

“You Won’t Be Able to Wait a Week to Propose” These were the wise words shared by Michael’s grandfather when Jocelyn’s engagement ring arrived the day after Thanksgiving.

The following Tuesday, Jocelyn and Michael’s friends, Dan and Sarah, asked if they wanted to get dinner that Friday. Jocelyn was totally on board, but Michael really wanted to stick to their plan of decorating their first Christmas tree together. When Jocelyn suggested they could move their plan to Saturday, Michael didn’t budge. Although Michael thought he played it off quite well, Jocelyn quickly grew suspicious and texted one of her friends (Emma, Bridesmaid) saying she suspected he might propose.

On that Friday, December 1st, they ventured out in search of a tree, and it was probably the first time in Michael’s life that he wasn’t completely focused on finding the perfect tree. After carrying the tree home and stringing the lights on, Michael retreated to the bedroom to get the ring. Of course, as soon as he left the family room Jocelyn was interrogating him as to what he was doing. When he came back into the family room he asked Jocelyn if she wanted to hang the first ornament, which he suggested be the one she got him their first Christmas together. Michael said he couldn’t wait to do this every year. At this point, Jocelyn thought she had been totally wrong, and he wasn’t going to propose so she exclaimed her excitement about Christmas and celebrating together every year. Then she noticed his heart was racing as she hugged him. He got down on one knee and (at that point, truly) surprised her!

All of this lead to their wedding day, held at First Presbyterian Church and the Teugega Country Club. What a wonderful day it was, from perfect summer weather to delicious food and wonderful music throughout the night! It all ended with a bang, or should I say a rumble, a rumble of thunder that is, as the end of their perfect day was wrapped up with a summer storm perfectly timed with the sparkler send off! Congratulations Jocelyn and Michael! Wishing you many years of happiness and love!
